Medical services in China
Though varying from place to place, the quality of medical care
in China has been improving. Competent, trained doctors and
nurses are available in major local hospitals and a nationwide
organization, made of first-class hospitals in the key tourist
cities in China, has been established to provide foreigners
with medical services. Although the medical services in China
is becoming more and more convenient, foreign travelers will
still find it sometimes difficult to get the proper medical
services. In order to solve the problem, mainly resulting from
language difficulties, special sections staffed with nurses
and doctors who can speak English are widely set aside in the
hospitals in China, what's more, many tourist hotels also provide
their foreign customers with medical help. It is also strongly
recommended that foreigners take medicines for colds, diarrhoea
and constipation in their medical kit, as well as a stock of
any regular medication they may need when they are traveling
in China.
Compared with checks and credit cards, cash payment is a much
more common practice in China. American travelers should also
note that U.S. medical insurance is not always valid outside
the United States, and the Medicare/Medicaid program does not
provide payment for medical services in China.
