Suzhou City Government Eye on the Valley Welcoming Foreign Businesses to APEC Technomart IV, September 21-25, 2001,
Suzhou City Mayor Talks on Suzhou Economic Environment
Fremont, California, May 12, 2001 - Suzhou City is opening to the world. Measures are seen in serial visits overseas. Following the Worldwide City Mayors Summit held in Seattle, Suzhou city delegation led by Mayor of Suzhou, Mr. Yang Weize, made Silicon Valley the second stop of their US trip. AMAX Engineer Corporation and its subsidiary company, CHINAnUSA.com, being selected as the most successful IT and e-commerce companies in the Asian community, have a constructive meeting with the delegates.
Mayor Yang and Jerry Shih, CEO of AMAX Engineering Cooperation exchanged ideas of IT business models and executions as well as Suzhou’s current investment environment. The mayor expressed that Suzhou City is pleased to have CHINAnUSA.com organize foreign companies to attend the upcoming APEC Technomart IV. He anticipates Technomart IV, held under the theme of “Innovation and Industrial Science and technology Cooperation in the 21st Century,” will encourage more international economic cooperation between Suzhou city and businesses overseas.
“Suzhou City, voted by the US News Week as one of the four most potential hi-tech cities to the US, gathers about 7,000 foreign-invested enterprises,” proudly presented by Mayor Yang. The economy of Suzhou is growing fast. Suzhou’s import and export value in 2000 topped 20.07 billion USD, an increase of 59.9% over 1999. By the end of 2000, the accumulated contractual sum of foreign investment was 35.56 billion USD.
The mayor also added that Suzhou’s improved infrastructure and business environment are very favorable to foreign businesses. As of now, 172 projects in Suzhou are invested by 77 enterprises among the Fortune 500, including Philips, Fujitsu, Samsung, AMD, Fairchild and other multinational corporations.
Sustained by the dynamic trading community, CHINAnUSA.com’s branch office in the Suzhou Industrial Park has quickly evolved to be the largest B2B e-commerce company since its grand opening in 1999. “With the industrial park’s ability to attract advanced local manufacturers to the hub, we are able to find the best Chinese trading partners for our US customers or vice versa.” said Mr. Jerry Shih, CEO of AMAX Engineering Corporation and CHINAnUSA.com, “Not only that, the five industrial parks in Suzhou, gathering local and foreign enterprises, also bring us tremendous opportunities to provide our IT solutions.” CHINAnUSA.com provides professional IT and E-commerce services to Chinese manufactures, thereby facilitating their export business with the US. Its parent company, AMAX Engineering Corporation, specializes in the distribution of computer hardware, software, web server appliances, and customized build-to-order PC systems.
With his missions to observe the IT trend in the Silicon Valley and extend his warmest invitation to US businesses for the upcoming Technomart IV, Mayor Yang feels the results achieved during this trip are of great value to Suzhou citizens.
