Business Matchmaking: Chinese Contract Manufacturers And Silicon Valley

Fremont, California, August 16, 2001 - To boost tangible export-import trade with foreign businesses, the Xi’an City Government is leading a delegation of sixty Chinese businesses to the Silicon Valley for Xi’an, China Trade and Investment Symposium at Marriott Fremont, August 17, 2001.

“We are here to help US businesses capture the business potential in Xi’an City that has not yet been fully discovered. We have favorable trade and investment environment as well as sound infrastructure, yet the city demands further improvement,” said Mr. Wang Yi, Vice President of Xi’an Municipal Bureau of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, who is also the leader of this Chinese delegation.

This event includes a morning forum session for an overview on trade and investment environment and trade preferential policies in Xi’an city, luncheon for networking, and afternoon business meetings for projects negotiations. The whole day event highlights face-to-face business negotiations on over one hundred projects provided by the visiting Chinese enterprises. Those Chinese enterprises will also exhibit their products at the event, offering US-based companies an open and direct venue to explore business opportunities. Details on this trade symposium can be obtained at www.chinanusa.com/xian.html.

While Beijing, Shanghai, and China’s coastal areas are populated with overseas enterprises that entered the China marketplace in an earlier stage, new comers are eyeing the Xi’an City. Xi’an being the largest city in Central and Western China plays a vital role in China’s recent focus on developing the Western China. A series of preferential trade policies are already in place to encourage joint ventures.

Xi’an did not gain its recognition merely for being one of the four ancient capitals, in line with Rome, Athens and Cairo, nor for its precious “Terra-cotta Warriors and Horses.” During the 80s and 90s, Xi’an has developed into a comprehensive industrial system with machinery, electronics, textile, light industry and aviation as the backbone. The marketplace has been supplemented by chemical industry, pharmacy, building materials, metallurgy and food industry. In addition, since the completion of Xi’an High-Tech Industrial Development Zone and Xi’an Economic & Technological Development Zone, the city has been putting emphasis on technological industries. Those two development zones have attracted foreign corporations from more than 30 countries, including Coca-Cola, Pratt Whitney in U.S.A., Mitsubishi Electric Company in Japan, Rolls & Royce in UK, and Siemens in Germany.

In conjunction with Xi’an’s emerging leading role in China’s economy, the city government has been taking active measures to align itself with the latest development in the international trading community. This May, it announced cooperation in the areas of e-commerce and marketing campaigns with CHINAnUSA.com, the leader in providing complete trading solutions for businesses to efficiently and cost-effectively trade within the US-China marketplace. Soon after the first successful collaboration, both parties join forces again for the Xi’an, China Trade and Investment Symposium. According to the agreement, CHINAnUSA.com will promote this event and coordinate with the Xi’an City Government to invite trade associations and US businesses.
